Model Context Protocol

Connect Claude to your Mac

PingTray serves a Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoint. Point an MCP client at it — Claude Code, or anything else that speaks the protocol — and you can ask about the Mac in the room you are not in.

What Claude can see

Three tools, all read-only. They answer from the Mac’s last heartbeat, so an answer is never fresher than the Mac’s reporting interval.

pingtray_status
Whether the Mac is online, asleep, quit or simply silent, how long ago it last reported, and its battery and CPU load at that moment.
pingtray_hosts
Every host the Mac monitors, whether the last probe reached it, and the round-trip latency.
pingtray_location
Where the Mac last placed itself, with the accuracy and age of the fix — only if location sharing is on, which is a Sync Plus feature.

Things worth asking

Once connected, these are ordinary questions:

1. Get a token

On the Mac: Settings → iPhone Access → Show Pairing Code. Redeem the six characters once — a code lasts five minutes and works a single time; the token it returns lasts a year.

curl -sX POST https://pingtray.sp33c.tech/api/v1/pair \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"code":"ABC234"}'

2. Add the server to Claude Code

One command. Any client that lets you set a request header works the same way.

claude mcp add --transport http pingtray https://pingtray.sp33c.tech/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <readToken>"

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

The connector UI in claude.ai and Claude Desktop takes a URL and OAuth, with nowhere to put a request header, so this endpoint cannot be added there yet. Claude Code is the way in today.

What it cannot do

Nothing. The token reads one Mac and changes none of it: it cannot add hosts, cannot turn publishing on or off, and cannot reach any other Mac. It is the same credential a paired iPhone holds, and turning off publishing on the Mac revokes it along with your phones. There is no account behind any of this.

Endpoint

JSON-RPC over Streamable HTTP, stateless, no session id. Protocol revisions 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26 and 2024-11-05.
